I spent years working in and around Australian warehouses — 3PLs, importers, distributors. The pattern was always the same: a shared spreadsheet tracking stock, a whiteboard for dispatch, and a filing cabinet for excise paperwork. Every operator I met was smart, resourceful, and somehow making it work. But “making it work” meant late nights reconciling numbers that never quite added up.

The enterprise WMS options were out there, sure. Six-figure implementations. Twelve-month rollouts. Consultants who'd never set foot on a warehouse floor. That's not what a 200-pallet operation in Melbourne needs. Or a bonded wine warehouse in the Barossa. Or a distributor in Western Sydney juggling five clients and an ATO audit.

So I built Whal.

It's a warehouse management system that actually fits how Australian operators work. Multi-client from day one — because most of the warehouses I know are 3PLs. Bonded and excise compliance built in — because that's not a nice-to-have when the ATO comes knocking. Mobile-first — because your team is on the floor with a phone, not sitting at a desktop.

Whal is opinionated about the things that matter (your audit trail is bulletproof, your excise numbers are correct, your clients can see their stock without calling you) and flexible about the things that should be (units of measure, fee structures, warehouse layouts).
